Vol. 113 No. 7

Order of Business

It is proposed to order for today Items Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 in that order. My understanding is that Senators are anxious that as much business as possible be covered in the next few weeks. Accordingly, the suggestion is that we should sit, if necessary, until 10 p.m. but that no new item of business be taken later than 8 p.m. It is proposed to rise from 5.30 to 6.30 p.m. Tomorrow it is proposed to order Nos. 6, 7, 8 and 9. This means that the Air Pollution Bill, which was presented to this House as long ago as last February, will be taken tomorrow afternoon.

The only thing that worries me is that the Leader has said that no new business will be taken after 8 p.m. If we decide now to sit until 10 p.m. we should sit until 10 p.m., and if we are finished item No. 4 at 8 p.m. we should go on to item No. 5 and get some of it done.

I am prepared to accept that suggestion. The only reason I suggested that there be no new business was in case Senators felt that to start for an hour or so is to break up the Second Stage debate unduly. But if it is the wish of the House to sit until 10 o'clock I am prepared to accept that suggestion.

That is my feeling. I do not know whether the other Members think differently.

It is agreed to sit until 10 o'clock.
