Seanad Éireann debate -
Thursday, 4 Jun 1987

Vol. 116 No. 6

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Items Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 4. Item No. 2 will be taken from now until 12.30. p.m. If we run out of speakers, the Minister will not come in to conclude the debate until another day, probably next Wednesday. There are some amendments to the Air Pollution Bill, on Report Stage. We will complete that and then go on to Motion No. 4. We will not conclude that today. We will conclude it next Wednesday between 6.30 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Will there be a break for lunch?

We will discuss that at 1 p.m.

May I draw to the attention of the House the fact that there is a great amount of dead matter on the Order Paper at the moment, reports that are out of date and cannot be taken in the House? I wonder could we have the Order Paper pruned before the next meeting so that we will know what is available to us by way of debate.

If I recall correctly, that suggestion was made at the commencement of business yesterday when Senator Fennell mentioned Item No. 22. Senator Lanigan gave me an understanding that the pruning would be done. Would the Acting Leader of the House indicate if that is correct?

Yes, I was speaking yesterday to the Clerk Assistant of the Seanad and we decided to leave them on for today but that we will remove quite a number of them before the next sitting day. Senator Fennell mentioned Item No. 23 on today's Order Paper which relates to sexual violence. I was speaking to the Minister's secretary yesterday and he told me that he would get in touch with me today. There is a hope that it will be taken next week.

Order of Business agreed to.
