Vol. 165 No. 1

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Costello that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Science to ensure that the crèche and pre-school in Saint Laurence O'Toole's primary school, Seville Place, Dublin 1, remains open while the school is being refurbished.

I have also received notice from Senator Taylor-Quinn of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health and Children immediately to provide funding to the Mid-Western Health Board to allow the Stella Maris nursing home in Lisdoonvarna, County Clare, to re-open.

I have also received notice from Senator Caffrey of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment and Local Government to expedite approval for the Ballina town, County Mayo, water supply scheme, stage 3, in view of the fact that there is a serious shortfall of water in Ballina town, and there is a need for pipe replacement and a new reservoir.

I have also received notice from Senator Cassidy of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment and Local Government to increase the retirement age for fire service employees.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Costello, Taylor-Quinn and Caffrey as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Costello's and Taylor-Quinn's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senator Caffrey may give notice on another day of the matter he wishes to raise.

I regret that I have had to rule Senator Cassidy's matter out of order on the grounds of lack of ministerial responsibility.
