Seanad Éireann debate -
Thursday, 24 Nov 2005

Vol. 181 No. 22

Request to move Adjournment of Seanad under Standing Order 29.

I have notice from Senator Leyden regarding a motion he wishes to raise under Standing Order 29. I call Senator Leyden to give notice of the motion before I give my ruling.

I wish to move a motion for the adjournment of the Seanad on a specific and important matter of public interest which has arisen suddenly, namely, the need to discuss the statement by Mr. Justice Fergus Flood on the Vincent Browne radio show on RTE Radio 1 on Wednesday, 23 November 2005, regarding the Flood-Mahon tribunal.

I have given careful consideration to the matter raised by Senator Leyden but I do not consider it to be a matter contemplated by Standing Order 29. I regret, therefore, I must rule it out of order.
