SELECT COMMITTEE ON ENVIRONMENT AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT debate -
Tuesday, 24 Mar 1998

Vol. 1 No. 3

Report of Select Committee.

In accordance with Standing Order 7(9)(b) I propose that the following message be sent to the Clerk of the Dáil:

The Select Committee on the Environment and Local Government has completed its consideration of the Local Government (Planning and Development) Bill, 1997 and has made amendments thereto and has amended the Title to read as follows: "An Act to amend and extend the Local Government (Planning and Development) Acts, 1963 to 1993, to provide for certain matters relating to An Bord Pleanála".

Is that agreed? Agreed.

Report agreed to.

Ordered to report to the Dáil accordingly.

I thank the Minister of State, his officials and the members of the committee.

I thank the Chairman and the members of the committee for the expeditious manner in which they dealt with this Bill. I hope the Bill will be implemented shortly to facilitate expeditious handling of planning appeals.

Members are aware that the Roads (Amendment) Bill, 1997 will be sent to this committee for consideration. The Minister will be available on 28 April. As the Select Committee has no other business, I suggest we adjourn and meet on Tuesday, 28 April at 2.30 p.m. Is that agreed?

No. I wish to be an active member of the committee but that time is impractical because it clashes with the re-opening of the Dáil. I do not have the benefit of multi-representation.

Members will be travelling to Dublin that morning, the Order of Business is in the evening and we must hold the meeting at a time when a room is available. We are doing our best but our best is probably not good enough.

The Select Committee adjourned at 4 p.m.
