SECTION 5.

Question Proposed: "That section 5 stand part of the Bill."

If we are doing work for the European agency where will the moneys come from?

My understanding is that we will be contracting services to the agency and remuneration will come from the agency by way of charges.

Is there a danger we will get a large agency which will not be competitive in the future? In other countries it has happened that the agencies have taken on too many personnel at various stages of contract work.

The bottom line for the new Irish Medicines Board will be safety. With a staff composed of management people rather than professionals in the field I would expect a regime of prudent management which will not allow the board to become overstretched and have difficulties.

Question put and agreed to.
