The school in question was approved to enter my Department’s pipeline of school buildings under the Additional School Accommodation (ASA) Scheme to provide 1 special education tuition room, 1 music room, 1 graphics room, 1 technology room, 1 technology preparation area and 1 special educational needs (SEN) base.

This project is devolved for delivery to the Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim Education and Training Board (MSLETB). A Design Team has been appointed to progress the project through the necessary architectural stages of design, statutory approvals, procurement and construction.

A Stage 1 report was received by my Department in June 2024. This report was reviewed from a technical and cost perspective in accordance with the requirements of the Public Spending Code. All projects, including this one, undergo the necessary due diligence outlined in the Public Infrastructure Guidelines. It was identified that a 4 classroom special educational needs (SEN) base is required to best meet the school’s needs. MSLETB were informed of this in Q2 2025 and were also advised that a revised Stage 1 report is required.

Once this report is received, it will be reviewed, and the outcome will be provided to MSLETB. My Department will continue to engage directly with the school authority and provide advice on how to progress this much needed project.
