Ireland's EU Just Transition Fund Programme aims to address employment, economic, social and environmental impacts arising from the ending of peat extraction for power generation in the Midlands Region.

Action 1.2 of the Programme seeks to support the implementation of local and regional economic strategies and is managed on behalf of my Department by Pobal. Longford County Council have been approved for funding under this action of the Programme for the development of a Centre of Excellence in the Circular Economy, and EDIC are partners of Longford County Council in this project.  The budget for the project includes a part-time project manager with the EU Just Transition Fund Programme to provide 50% funding for this role and Longford County Council providing the remainder.

I am informed by Pobal that the project team in Longford County Council has submitted a request for approval for the Project Manager position to the Department of Housing, Local Government, and Heritage, as the sanctioning Department for local authority staffing, and that the recruitment process for this post will follow this approval.
