39. Deputy John Paul O'Shea asked the Minister for Transport the plans to improve transport infrastructure and coach facilities in Dublin port, due to the increasing number of cruise liners stopping there; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17662/25]
View answerThe number of mid-sized cruise ships visiting Dublin Port directly over recent years has remained relatively consistent with approximately 30 to 40 requests annually. Dublin Port also facilitates in excess of 60 cruise calls annually to Dublin Bay, in which case passengers are tendered to Dún Laoghaire.
Within the ongoing Dublin Port Masterplan 2040 infrastructure development works, Dublin Port aims to accommodate mid-size cruise ships where feasible. Dublin Port facilitates operators by erecting temporary reception marquees and facilitating coach collections as required.
My Department does not place any restriction on the number of cruise ships that can visit ports in Ireland. Cruise visits to ports are a day-to-day operational matter for the individual port companies, with any commercial arrangements made directly between the port company and respective cruise companies.
