(a) The number of women candidates who passed the last Easter Scholarship Examination in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Divisions respectively is as follows:—
First Division
91
Second Division
407
Third Division
331
(b) The number for each division who have been called to Training Colleges within the jurisdiction of the Ministry is not yet available, as the complete returns have not so far been received from the Training Colleges, but it is understood that, apart from six extern students, the students have been called to the college of their choice strictly in the order of merit.
(c) It is a fact that some candidates who passed in the First Division have not been called to training, while others who did not pass in the First Division have been called. This is due to the fact that the “order of merit” candidates for admission to Training Colleges is based on the total marks awarded, including “service marks” and certain marks in optional subjects, while the classification in divisions is based on the marks received in obligatory subjects only. Candidates who have not been monitors, pupil teachers, junior assistant mistresses, are not awarded service marks, and it can be readily understood that such a candidate might get First Division on the obligatory subjects, but at the same time might get a much lower grand total of marks than an ex-monitor or pupil teacher who only got Second Division, but had afterwards the benefit of service marks and marks for optional subjects.
