Vol. 2 No. 29

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. - ARREST OF MISS CONSTANCE MURPHY.

To ask the Minister for Defence whether he is aware of the arrest of Miss Constance Murphy, on the 24th January, at Cork, by the forces of the National Army, and whether any charge has been made against her, and whether it has been stated that Miss Murphy was on the purely political work of organising Sinn Féin Clubs in the district of Cork.

I am aware of the arrest of Miss Constance Murphy. A charge has not yet been made against her. It has been stated by her father that she was "organising Sinn Féin," and that "her action was perfectly constitutional," but correspondence between the Divisional Adjutant and the Divisional Quartermaster of the Irregular forces in the Cork area suggests very definitely otherwise, and, in my opinion, warrants the detention of the lady.
