Vol. 3 No. 9

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - ADVERTISING SEASIDE RESORTS.

asked the Minister for External Affairs whether he is aware that during the past two years the seaside resorts on the East and South Coast have suffered very considerably, and would he state what steps he intends to take to make known to tourists, both at home and abroad, the beauties and health-giving properties of the Saorstát Eireann seaside resorts.

Mr. O'HIGGINS

I have been asked to read the following answer to this question:—The Government is aware that Irish seaside resorts have suffered, like the rest of the country, from the Irregular campaign. The return of normal conditions, however, is being made known abroad as much as possible.

A scheme to advertise Irish seaside places would involve considerable expenditure, and this work in other countries is largely undertaken by local councils, hotel keepers' associations, and railway and steamship companies. The Publicity Department and our Representatives abroad will co-operate as far as practicable with any united campaign which is undertaken.
