Vol. 3 No. 14

[ WRITTEN ANSWERS. ] - POSSESSION OF SKIBBEREEN PREMISES.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he has completed his inquiries in reference to the Emporium, the property of Mr. O'Shea, Main Street, Skibbereen, which was occupied by the military from the 4th February, 1922, and whether he is aware that Mr. Stephen O'Brien, Ex-Adjutant, National Army, is still in possession of the premises and has opened a shop there; and whether the Minister will see that Mr. O'Shea is paid compensation for the time he is kept out of possession of his property by the action of the military in not giving him clear possession.

I have received further reports on this case which indicate that a decision on the point whether the premises were properly surrendered to the owner or not, is a matter for legal advice.

The Office of Public Works is responsible for all matters in connection with the tenure of Army premises, and I have submitted all the facts to them, with a request that a decision should be obtained.
