Vol. 3 No. 16

[WRITTEN ANSWERS.] - FERBANE MOTOR CAR.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware that Mr. James Claffey, Ferbane, was ordered to drive a wounded National Soldier from Ferbane to Athlone on July 22nd, 1922, accompanied by a military escort; whether and for what the military escort took the motor from the Barracks in Athlone, leaving the owner and driver behind, and drove to Belmont, and wrecked the car by driving it into a ditch and abandoned it; whether he has received repeated applications for compensation, and when he expects to be in a position to settle this claim.

I am not aware of the occurrences mentioned, and I do not appear to have received any application for compensation. Mr. Claffey was requested, on the 17th April, to submit a claim, but he has not yet done so.
