Vol. 3 No. 18

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - FIRING AT RABBITS.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware that troops travelling between Mullingar and Edenderry in motor lorries are in the habit of firing at rabbits in a warren near Rahan, and further, whether he is aware that on the night of the 17th instant, about 8.15 old time, a man living in the neighbourhood had a narrow escape from death by a bullet grazing his right ear, and to ask whether he will take steps to prevent a repetition of this practice.

I am not aware that habitual firing of the kind mentioned takes place. On the date in question a Crossley tender conveying a party of troops broke down near Rahan. While the car was being repaired two soldiers fired at rabbits. The necessary disciplinary action has been taken. General assurance is given that all necessary steps are being taken to prevent such occurrences.
