Vol. 3 No. 29

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - HOUSE-BUILDING AT NEWCASTLE WEST.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether his refusal to allow the Town Commissioners of Newcastle West to proceed with the building of houses by direct labour indicates a general objection to direct labour by local authorities for such work; and whether he would be prepared, in view of the delay which has already occurred owing to legal difficulties and the default of the original contractor, over which the Township Commissioners had no control, to expedite the commencement of the work by allowing the Commissioners to do it by direct labour.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative, and to the second part in the negative.
