Vol. 3 No. 32

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - DUBLIN PROPERTY DAMAGE.

asked the President what steps are being taken to speed up the payment of compensation for damage done to property in Dublin in July and August, 1922; and what is the total value of claims still outstanding in respect to such damaged property for that period.

Payment of compensation in respect of claims for damage to property in Dublin arising out of the events of July and August last must await, as in other parts of the Saorstát, the hearing of such claims in the manner prescribed by the Damage to Property (Compensation) Act, 1923. In the meantime every effort is being made in my Department to investigate the numerous claims submitted, in order to dispose of them as expeditiously as possible when they come before the Courts.

A considerable number of claims of an urgent character, in which the total amount was small, have been disposed of in Dublin by direct settlement with the claimants.

Over 1,500 claims in the City of Dublin, and 300 in the County Dublin, have been lodged in the Ministry of Finance, on forms prescribed by the Act, but I would remind the Deputy that the figures quoted are not final as the time limit within which claims may be registered has not yet expired. I regret that the total amount claimed cannot be stated.
