Vol. 5 No. 11

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - MULLINGAR COURTHOUSE.

asked the Minister for Home Affairs if he is aware that considerable public inconvenience is caused by the Courthouse, Mullingar, being utilized as a Gárda Síochána Barracks; that it is most uncomfortable and unsuitable for such purpose, and does not contain sufficient accommodation; whether, under the circumstances, he will have the Police Barracks, Mullingar, which was partially burned down, repaired, and which will provide suitable premises for the Headquarters of this body, and also give very much needed employment in the town.

Mr. O'HIGGINS

The occupation of the Courthouse at Mullingar by the Gárda Síochána is merely a temporary arrangement, and the accommodation therein is not satisfactory. The question of reconstructing the old Royal Irish Constabulary Barracks is receiving the consideration of the Commissioners of Public Works, and it is hoped that a decision in the matter may be arrived at shortly.
