CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - INQUIRY INTO THE CASE OF NOEL LEMASS.

asked the Minister for Home Affairs what steps have been taken to comply with the demand of the Jury at the inquest on the late Noel Lemass, for a full judicial enquiry into the evidence, in view of their finding that the armed forces of the State were implicated in the removal and disappearance of Noel Lemass from the streets of Dublin.

A Coroner's inquest is itself a judicial enquiry, and no machinery exists for enabling any further enquiry of the kind suggested to be held. If at any time sufficient evidence is forthcoming to connect any particular individual or individuals with the crime the appropriate court proceedings will be at once instituted for the purpose of having the charge investigated and dealt with in due course of law.

It is to be observed that the opinion expressed by the Jury to the effect that armed forces of the State were "implicated in the removal and disappearance of Noel Lemass from the streets of Dublin," was entirely unsupported by evidence.
