Vol. 6 No. 7

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - PAYMENT FOR TREATMENT OF EX-ARMY MEN.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that payment for the treatment of men discharged from the National Army and suffering from tuberculosis is discontinued from the 31st ult.; if he will state whether it is intended to make further provision to permit of these men being treated, as they are not entitled to Sanatorium Benefit under the National Health Insurance Act, 1923.

I am aware that payment for the treatment of discharged soldiers suffering from tuberculosis ceased on the 31st ultimo. I regret that it is not practicable to make any provision out of Army Funds for their further treatment. The cases of those men who were not insured under the National Health Insurance Acts are receiving the attention of the Minister for Local Government with a view to the provision of treatment under the Tuberculosis Prevention Acts.
