Vol. 6 No. 12

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - KILCULLEN (KILDARE) SOLDIER'S CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that Mrs. Doyle, of Dillon's Avenue, Kilcullen, Co. Kildare, mother of Private Patrick Doyle, who is disabled and was discharged as medically unfit owing to having received seven gunshot wounds in his right thigh at Ballineen, Co. Cork, on the 5th October, 1922, has received several applications from the Army Paymaster's Offices, Portobello Barracks, for a refund of twelve shillings overdrawn separation allowance, the last dated 25th ult., Ref. No. A.F./3275, threatening to take proceedings against her if she does not refund the money immediately; further, whether he will have Doyle's case inquired into at once with a view to settlement by pension or gratuity, so that Mrs. Doyle can refund the money claimed by the Army Paymaster.

The facts are as stated. The normal procedure for the recovery of overpayment of dependents' allowance was followed in Mrs. Doyle's case. The matter will, however, be allowed to rest, pending a decision on the claim which has been made under the provisions of the Army Pensions Act, 1923, and of which consideration is being expedited.
