asked the Minister for Home Affairs whether he is aware that advertisements offering "key money" and inviting payment of "key money" or the purchase of furniture as a condition of the letting of houses appear frequently in Dublin newspapers, and whether he proposes to take any action in respect to this contravention of Section 13 (3) of the Increase of Rent and Mortgage Interest (Restrictions) Act, 1923.
CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - HOUSE-LETTING—QUESTION OF “KEY MONEY.”
TOMAS MAC EOIN
My attention has been directed to advertisements of the kind referred to, and the question of prosecution by the police under Section 13, sub-section 3, of the Increase of Rent and Mortgage Interest (Restrictions) Act, 1923, is at present under consideration. The special attention of newspapers is being directed to the offence of publishing such advertisements.
If the Deputy will furnish any particulars in his possession relating to the matter, prosecutions will be directed if the facts so warrant.
My desire is that a warning should be given. I am not urging prosecutions.
