Vol. 6 No. 39

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CENSORSHIP OF FILMS.

asked the Minister for Home Affairs if he will state whether any contract in connection with the censorship of films has been entered into with the Irish Bonded Film Stores, Ltd., and, if so, if he will state the date of the contract and its duration.

Mr. O'HIGGINS

Messrs. McConnell-Hartley informed my Department by letter, dated the 15th August, 1923, of the terms on which they would be prepared to allow the use of the Dame Street premises for censorship. The Department replied on the 7th September, 1923, accepting these terms, subject to certain stipulations. Messrs. McConnell-Hartley agreed to these stipulations in letter dated the 11th idem.

The contract is for 12 months.

Will the Minister inform the Dáil as to whether there was any competition before this contract was taken, or whether there were any alternative suggestions put forward?

Mr. O'HIGGINS

I do not know of any alternative suggestions.

Was the contract given without any competition?

Mr. O'HIGGINS

There was no competition.
