Vol. 7 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SUPERANNUATION OF CO. CLARE OFFICIALS.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is yet in a position to say what superannuation is being granted to officials of local public bodies in County Clare whose services were dispensed with as a result of the amalgamation scheme put into effect in that county; if he is aware that some of those officials are actually drawing Home assistance, and if, in consideration of the fact that they are now disemployed over two years, he will expedite sanction of undisputed awards and decisions on those disputed.

I can give particulars only where my consent is required or where the allowances are disputed. The principal cases disputed are those of the officers of Killadysert and Kilrush Unions. As regards the former, a letter setting out the proposed superannuation awards was addressed on the 6th ultimo to the solicitor of the officers concerned, to afford him an opportunity of making any representations he considered necessary. A reminder was sent on the 10th instant, but no reply has yet been received. In the case of Kilrush difficulty has been experienced in collecting the appropriate accurate particulars, and I am in correspondence with the Board of Health in the matter.

I am not aware that some of the officials are in receipt of Home assistance.

The undisputed awards of superannuation made before the passing of the Local Government (Temporary Provisions) Act, 1923, do not require my sanction, and payment in respect of them is entirely a matter for the County Council. The Deputy may, however, be assured that so far as the other cases which I have mentioned are concerned, there will be no avoidable delay in my Department in arriving at a decision.
