Vol. 7 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - PUBLIC TELEPHONES IN CO. CORK.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that the Telephone Department, Cork, has recommended the installation of a Public Telephone Call Office in Kanturk; and if he will have the work started forthwith.

The telephone circuit which serves Kanturk for telegraph purposes already carries the maximum amount of traffic, and could not be used for affording Call Office facilities.

In order to open a Call Office at Kanturk it would be necessary to provide an additional circuit from Mallow involving considerable capital expenditure, and the annual charges in respect of it would far exceed the estimated receipts.

The question of the establishment of an Exchange at Kanturk is under consideration, and should sufficient support be forthcoming to warrant the opening of an Exchange a Call Office would also be provided.
