Vol. 7 No. 16

QUESTION ON ADJOURNMENT. - LOCAL GOVERNMENT REPORT ON DUBLIN CORPORATION.

May I ask the Minister for Local Government, now that he is present, if he can tell the Dáil when he is prepared to place before the Deputies the report of the Inspector who investigated the proceedings and conduct of the Dublin Corporation?

As I explained before, this report is rather a lengthy report, and to publish it would be very costly. It will run into a considerable amount of money to have it circulated. I could not undertake to have it printed and circulated without first having a general consensus of opinion in the Dáil in favour of it, and then getting the consent of the Minister for Finance.

Could the Minister do for the Dáil as much as he did for the newspapers?

It did not cost anything to do that for the newspapers.

Does the Minister realise that his first duty is to the Dáil?

Yes, I do realise that.

I give notice that on the adjournment I will raise this question of the publication of the report of the Inspector into the conduct of the Dublin Corporation.

Would it not be simpler to move for a return?

That would require notice, and I want a decision.

I suggest it would be more satisfactory to move for a return.

The Deputy will not get a decision on this matter this evening.

The Minister has asked for an expression of opinion from the various parties in the Dáil, and I want to give that opportunity.
