Vol. 7 No. 16

QUESTION ON ADJOURNMENT. - ARRANGEMENT OF BUSINESS.

I move to sit later than 8.30, in order to deal with the Railway Bill and the Local Government Bill.

Are you excluding the Estimates?

I would not like to exclude them. Possibly, we may be able to deal with Vote 39.

It would be necessary to know whether we are to have a discussion on any of the Estimates in order that we may be prepared.

If I had any intimation of what length of time would be required on the Estimates, I would be prepared to meet the views of Deputies. If there was a chance of disposing of this Estimate this evening, I take it that two hours would suffice to deal with the Local Government Bill.

Two hours? Why two weeks would be more like it.

If that be the case, I fear I cannot undertake to have this Estimate discussed to-night. I put it to Deputies, in all fairness, that we have been sitting late on two nights in succession. We have a pile of Estimates to deal with, and I am afraid it will mean sitting up late on other nights.

This Local Government Bill will take quite a long time— several sittings, perhaps.

I would not ask for more than an hour on the Local Government Bill this evening. If we deal with the Local Government Bill until 9.30, I propose to take Vote 39 for an hour.

Motion put and agreed to.
