Vol. 7 No. 16

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CLAIMS FOR COMPENSATION.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state what is the reason of the delay on the part of the Compensation (Personal Injuries) Committee in dealing with the claims for compensation of Martin Heavey, Blacktrench, Naas; Laurence Flood, Mayfield, Kilmeague, Naas; Charles Dunny, Dunbyrne, Naas; and Michael Dunne, Grangehiggin, Naas, in respect of injuries and loss sustained during the Black-and-Tan trouble since the 18th June, 1921; further, whether, in view of what those men have suffered during the last three years, instructions will be given for the early consideration of these claims.

The claims of the persons named by the Deputy are in respect of impairment of health as a result of imprisonment, and are outside the scope of the Compensation (Personal Injuries) Committee.

Will the Minister state why this information could not be given before now, three years after the event?

Well, I believe that that information was disclosed to the Dáil last year when the Terms of Reference to the Personal Injuries Committee were circulated.
