Vol. 7 No. 16

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - LAND ACT PROCEDURE.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he will state on what system it is proposed by the Land Commission to select those to whom land will be granted under the Land Act, 1923; whether evicted tenants will be reinstated on their old holdings, where those holdings are available, and whether prior consideration will be given to the claims of descendants of evicted tenants, including those who were evicted before 1878, even though those persons should not be in the occupation of any land holdings at present.

Untenanted land required by the Land Commission under the Land Act, 1923, will be allotted amongst the classes of persons set out in Section 31 of the Act, who are suitable to work land.

In deciding as to the suitability of allottees, the Commissioners must be satisfied of their competence to work land and of their intention to do so, and not to sell, let or assign it.

Where an unoccupied evicted holding is acquired by the Commissioners, the application of the person who, or whose predecessors, were evicted therefrom, will be considered by the Commissioners on its merits.
