Is the motion in the name of Deputy McCabe opposed?
PRIVATE BUSINESS. - RETURN AS TO RATES.
No; I am willing to accept that.
I do not believe that this motion before the Dáil is a controversial one. It merely asks for a return that will be very useful to the Dáil and useful to the country, as a whole, in considering and in coming to any decision that they may have to come to in relation to local government. It is a return which will put us in the position of being able to compare the work done by the different local bodies and the position in which they stand with regard to the collection of rates and finance generally. I believe also that it will be very useful in many ways in relation to the question of this Bill proposed by the Minister for Agriculture this morning for the relief of rates. I therefore content myself with formally moving the motion.
