Vol. 7 No. 21

[WRITTEN ANSWERS.] - SECONDARY TEACHERS' CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Education if he will accept as official information any proved details supplied to him concerning Secondary Teachers who have given efficient service to the country as fully qualified National Teachers.

If the Deputy's question refers to my reply to his previous question of May 7th, on the subject of this year's Interim Grant for Secondary Teachers, I would draw his attention to the fact that owing to the advisability of having this grant distributed to the teachers before the conclusion of the school year the rules governing the distribution are now settled, and no change is possible for the present year. I desire to add for the Deputy's information that it has been the practice of the Education Department to accept for the purposes of this grant the length of teaching service as registered or registrable in accordance with regulations made by the Registration Council, which was constituted under the Intermediate Education Act of 1914 for the purpose of framing regulations for a Register of Intermediate School Teachers. This Council is representative of all classes of Secondary Teachers, and any representations made through it on the subject of the class of teaching service which should be regarded as registrable will receive careful consideration.
