Vol. 7 No. 21

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - PENSION CLAIM OF KILDARE SOLDIER.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware that Private Michael Shannon, Army No. 15391, of Ballymore-Eustace, Co. Kildare, was discharged as medically unfit from the National Army on the 28th April, 1924, on account of having two fingers and portion of his left hand shot away by a rifle bullet; further, whether he is aware that this man is entirely dependent on his aged father, who, though in receipt of a pension of 15s. per week, is also disabled, and whether he will have enquiries made with a view to granting a pension or gratuity.

I am aware of the circumstances of the case, that is, speaking departmentally. Mr. Shannon does not appear to have made an application for a pension or gratuity. A form for the purpose has now been sent to him, and on its return, duly completed, the case will be considered as quickly as possible.
