Vol. 7 No. 23

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - WATERFORD PERSONAL INJURIES COMPENSATION CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Finance whether a claim was made by Thomas Crehan, temporary warder, 5 New Lane, Waterford, before the Personal Injuries Committee, for compensation for personal injuries received on the 7th July, 1922, when he was shot through the left breast while endeavouring to resist armed raiders at Waterford Prison; whether since then he has been unable to work, and as a result of his injuries has been no longer employed at the Prison; whether any compensation has been allowed to this man, and if, in view of the facts, the Minister will have the case reinvestigated.

The application referred to by the Deputy has been received and considered by the Compensation (Personal Injuries) Committee. After full investigation of the facts of the case, the Committee were of opinion that the earning capacity of the applicant was not impaired as a result of the injury, and they recommended that no compensation should be paid. No medical expenses were incurred, and on reviewing the circumstances, I see no reason why the case should be reconsidered.

Is it a fact that this man is no longer employed in the prison?

That is a fact, I understand, but it is not due to his injury.

It is not due to his injury?
