Vol. 7 No. 31

DAIL IN COMMITTEE. - DÁIL RESUMES.

Progress reported; the Committee to sit again to-morrow.

With regard to the rest of the business, is it proposed to take items 3 or 4 to-day?

Not unless we can reach them before 10 o'clock, which I think is unlikely.

It is proposed to sit later than 8.30 and that the motion for the adjournment will be taken not later than 10.30.

I had hoped, sir, that we might be able to sit late tonight and conclude this motion.

I am prepared to sit longer.

I would ask that we sit with a view to disposing of this motion, if possible.

I am agreeable.

We can make an order in the form that the motion by Deputy Mulcahy on the Order Paper will be taken after the adjournment for tea, and that the Dáil will sit to conclude it, but I hope it is realised what exactly that means.

Is it necessary to state an hour for adjournment?

It is not necessary to state an hour for adjournment. We can sit to finish specified business.

Could you say that the Division will be taken at 11 o'clock, 11.30 or 12?

We could. It is not necessary, but we have done it frequently. I will have to get the exact proposal, because later on people will be asking me questions.

It is that we should sit until the business is finished. I am satisfied to do that. I do not like to put the closure on a motion of want of confidence in the Government. It would be scarcely fair; but I am prepared, if there is general agreement, to fix on any hour.

If there is a question of fixing an hour, would the President bear in mind the fact that certain Deputies have to catch late trains or trams at 11.15, and that it would be very inconvenient to sit later than that?

At any rate, if we make an order to sit to conclude this business, we are not bound to conclude it. We can change our minds later.

Ordered: That the Motion on the Order Paper in the name of Deputy Mulcahy be taken at 7 o'clock, and that the Dáil sit to conclude it.
Sitting suspended at 6.15 and resumed at 7.10 p.m., An Ceann Comhairle in the Chair.
