Vol. 8 No. 10

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - INTERNEES AND PRISONERS.

asked the President if he will state the number of persons now detained for political offences in internment camps and prisons in the Free State, and also if he will state the Government's future policy regarding the prisoners and the public demand for their early release.

I am not in a position at present to give the information desired. As already stated on more than one occasion, the matter is receiving particular attention, and is not advanced in any way by questions. A return now, such as is requested, would not be a true representation of the facts, as release warrants are being signed almost daily, but take a day or more to carry into effect. The policy of the Government in the matter has been stated fully on more than one occasion, and evidence of that policy ought to be fairly clear from recent events.

Will the President say when he hopes to make his promised statement?

Before the adjournment of the Session.
