Vol. 8 No. 13

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - A NAAS SOLDIER'S CLAIM FOR ARREARS OF PAY.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware that Christopher Maloney, of Grangehiggin, Kilmeague, Naas, Co. Kildare, joined the National Army at Edenderry, on August 14th, 1922, for a period of six months, at the expiration of which he asked leave to go home, and was refused; whether he served for a further two months, when he returned home, and was afterwards arrested on May 26th, 1923; whether he was detained without charge or trial until August 20th, 1923, when he was released at Mullingar, without having a Discharge Certificate issued to him, and, if so, whether he will consider the question of settlement of arrears of pay and the issue of a Discharge Certificate to Mr. Maloney.

Enquiries are being made in the case of Mr. Maloney but they are not yet completed. I will communicate the result to the Deputy as soon as possible.
