Vol. 8 No. 15

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - AGRICULTURAL GRANTS FOR LONGFORD.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether he can state the amounts of Agricultural Grants withheld from the County Council of Longford for the three years ending the 31st March, 1924, in respect of land purchase arrears, including arrears in respect of advances made under the Labourers Acts.

The amount due and unpaid up to the 31st March, 1924, in respect of Agricultural Grant to Longford County Council is £2,237 5s. 1d. This sum represents a proportion of the Grant for the half-year ended 30th September, 1923, and with this exception the Agricultural Grant for the entire period referred to in the Deputy's question has been paid in full.

When is it likely this amount will be paid to Longford County Council?

During the three years ending the 31st March, 1924, the total sum absorbed in the Guarantee Fund in the case of County Longford was £8,583 1s. 7d. The grants affected by reason of that absorption are:— Agricultural Grant, £2,237 5s. 1d.; Estate Duty Grant, £6,345 16s. 6d. In these cases the Deputy will realise the necessity for payment of Land Commission annuities.

I realise it. I would like to know when will the £2,237 5s. 1d. be paid, provided the county council advises the defaulters to pay up the arrears?

They would want to do more than advise them.
