Vol. 8 No. 18

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - BALLYSHANNON MOTOR.

asked the Minister for Defence whether a Dodge motor car, I.H.-463, Engine No. 435169, Chassis No. 383130, the property of Mr. Robert Neely, of Ballyshannon, was taken by armed men from Mr. Neely's garage on the 11th April, 1922, and subsequently recovered by National Forces at Manorhamilton, where a Court of Inquiry was held, and the car identified by Mr. Neely's driver; whether the car was afterwards brought to Athlone, where it was held and used by the Transport Officer of the National Forces, as admitted by letter of 8th February, 1923, from Captain Cooke, Athlone Command, Transport Officer, and if, when Mr. Neely's driver attended at Athlone and Longford as requested, he was informed that the whereabouts of the car was unknown; and whether the Department made any inquiries as suggested by Mr. Neely as to the allegation that this car had been in the continuous use of an officer named Farrel, or O'Farrelly, in the Sligo Command, and whether any attempt was made to restore this car to Mr. Neely.

I regret that I am not at present in a position to reply to the various points mentioned by the Deputy in his question regarding Mr. Neely's motor car. I am having inquiries made in the matter, and will communicate with the Deputy as soon as possible.

Would the Minister make inquiries in the neighbourhood of Limerick and Tralee, as a number of cars are being sold there by auction this week?

Yes, I will undertake to have inquiries made.
