Vol. 8 No. 19

CEISTEANNA.—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - REPRESENTATION AT INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCES.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he will state what arrangements, if any, have been agreed to by him respecting the representation of Saorstát Eireann at any International Conferences or Conventions in which it may be committed.

Before putting this question, I would like to say that the question was put down prior to the Minister's answer to Deputy Johnson's question on the day before yesterday, but I still put it to him in case the negotiations referred to by him referred to a wider matter with regard to general representation.

The position at present is generally decided by the precedents of Versailles and Washington and the resolutions of the Imperial Conference. In this connection I would refer the Deputy to a statement in my speech on External Affairs Estimates, 9th July, column 4040, lines 8-17 of the Official Report.

A most judicious reply.
