Vol. 8 No. 20

COMMITTEE ON FINANCE. - VOTE 21—EXPENSES UNDER THE REPRESENTATION OF THE PEOPLE ACT AND UNDER THE ELECTORAL ACT.

Motion made—
That a sum not exceeding £14,000 be granted to complete the sum necessary to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1925, for Expenses under the Representation of the People Act, 1918, and under the Electoral Act, 1923.

I would like to know whether we can get any information of the possible expenditure under this Vote for this year. There are a number of vacancies at present, and I am taking this opportunity to ask the Minister if he will tell us whether he proposes to call for the issue of the writs before the adjournment.

Not before the adjournment. I would like to be able to consider the matter until next Friday.

I mean before the adjournment for the Recess.

I cannot promise that. I will have the matter under consideration during the week, and I can be questioned on it by Friday next.

Will the Minister promise us a majority if somebody else moves in the matter?

Vote put and agreed to.
