I move amendment 1.
"In page 2, line 20, to delete the words "be a" and substitute the words "if the proclamation so directs be a public."
The effect of this amendment is simply to draw a distinction between a bank holiday and a public holiday. In the public mind the idea exists that a bank holiday is a day on which there was a general closing down. It is only a day in which the banks are closed. A public holiday is a day which involves the general closing of banks and various other offices, such as the courts and other places.
Clause 3 will apply equally; that is with regard to notice?
Certainly.
I beg to move amendment 2. It is purely consequential. It is:—
"In page 2, line 31, before the word ‘holiday' where it secondly occurs in that line to insert the word ‘public.'"
