Vol. 9 No. 16

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - RELEASE OF WEXFORD PRISONER.

asked the Minister for Justice if he can state if the Governor-General has received a memorial from certain residents in County Wexford, asking for the release of George Murphy, Ferns, County Wexford; if the Minister has been informed of the receipt of this memorial, and if, in view of the peaceful state of the country, this man will be released.

George Murphy was convicted of ordinary criminal offences, namely, armed robbery and the unlawful possession of firearms. I am not prepared in such a case to discuss in the Dáil whether it would be advisable in the interests of justice and of the public that the prerogative of mercy be exercised.
