I hope to introduce a Bill on this subject very shortly, one of the effects of which, if enacted. will be to extend the area as suggested.
Is the Minister prepared to see that men who are called upon to leave their work in Dublin will not be compelled to suffer a reduction of pay by their employers for carrying out the work of the State?
I am informed that there is a considerable amount of exaggeration with regard to Dublin City jurors. I understand that a Dublin juror does not serve more than once in two years, and, consequently, the matter to which the Deputy refers would very seldom arise.
Would the Minister be surprised to hear of a case where a poor man was compelled to attend for four days of the week recently, and a big company, which employs him, insisted upon a reduction of his pay while he was on service for the State?
I would not be surprised at anything that the Deputy states: he knows that I would be very much disinclined to believe that was an accurate statement.
