Vol. 9 No. 21

CEISTEANNA.—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - BALBRIGGAN BLIND PENSION CLAIM.

TOMAS MAC EOIN

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that a decision on the claim for a blind person's pension by Mr. Patrick Reid, of Balbriggan, approved by the Local Pensions Sub-Committee on 7th June, 1924, but appealed against by the Pension Officer, has been delayed for nearly six months, on account of the number of cases requiring the attention of the Department's medical inspector, and whether, in view of the hardship caused in these and similar cases by such delay, the Minister will state if sanction for the employment of extra medical inspectors has yet been given by the Minister for Finance, and, if not, if he will state what alternative arrangement he is prepared to make.

The facts are as stated by the Deputy. The Minister for Finance has now agreed to sanction the appointment of an additional temporary medical inspector, with the necessary qualifications, and the further arrangements are being made in the matter at once.

Will the Minister see that the case of Mr. Patrick Reid of Balbriggan is attended to immediately by this new appointee?

I will suggest it to the Minister for Local Government.
