Vol. 9 No. 27

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ACQUISITION OF BALLYCASTLE RAILWAY.

TOMAS MAC EOIN

asked the Vice-President whether he is aware that the London, Midland and Scottish Railway has served notice of its intention to promote a Private Bill in the Parliament of Northern Ireland for the acquisition and working of the Ballycastle Railway, and if he will state what action the Government has taken, or proposes to take, in view of the fact that the Northern Parliament has no jurisdiction over railways.

My attention has been directed to a notice in The Railway Gazette that application is intended to be made in the Northern Parliament in the forthcoming Session by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway Company for an Act of Parliament in connection with the Ballycastle Railway.

I assume that the Northern Parliament, when the application comes before it, will refuse to entertain it on the ground that it has no powers of legislation with reference to railways. Should the application be entertained by the Northern Parliament, appropriate action will be taken.
