Vol. 9 No. 27

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SECONDARY TEACHERS' SALARIES.

asked the Minister for Education if he is in a position to announce the terms of the new scale of salaries for secondary teachers, and from what date it is proposed to put it into operation.

The principles involved in the new Rules for the payment of increments of salary to the secondary teachers have now been settled, and I hope to be in a position to make an announcement at an early date. It is proposed that the scheme shall apply as from the beginning of the present school year.

Does that cover payment to schools as well as teachers?

As that is not in the original question, I cannot answer it.

Can the Minister give any idea of when that announcement will be made? What is the definition of an early date?

If it does not seem to postpone the date too far I would say when the Minister for Education returns from the Boundary.

Is that when the Boundary question will be settled?

The reports of both might appear together, but I hope that answer will not be regarded as postponing unduly either the date of the Boundary settlement or of the secondary teachers' settlement.
