Vol. 10 No. 5

CEISTEANNA.—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - FLOODING OF CO. MEATH LANDS.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether he is aware that representation has been made to the Land Commission on behalf of twenty-five congests at Barleyhill, Kingscourt, Co. Meath, who, because of flooding on their uneconomic holdings during the past twelve months, are in a very serious position as a result of the loss of agricultural produce; whether he is aware that one month ago the Land Commission stated that the matter would receive attention, and whether he will see that relief measures are expedited.

The representation referred to in the question has been received, and in acknowledging receipt the Land Commission stated that it would receive attention. In so far as the lands can be identified from the particulars available, they would for the most part appear to have been purchased under the Land Purchase Acts prior to that of 1923. The Commissioners have directed enquiries to be made.

As the answer is most misleading, I would like if the Minister could tell me whether there is any question as to the acquisition or purchasing of lands involved in the question, or in any of the correspondence with the Land Commission. No such thing has been involved, and the answer is side-tracking the matters that have been raised.
