Vol. 10 No. 14

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - TULLOW WATER SUPPLY.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he can state the cause of the delay in holding an inquiry into the proposed water supply for Tullow, Co. Carlow, and whether, in view of the fact that maps and specifications in connection with the works are now ready, he will undertake to expedite matters.

The proposed water supply for Tullow involves the compulsory acquisition of lands and water rights. Where compulsory powers are sought by a rural district council a petition is required to be presented in accordance with Section 203 of the Public Health Act, 1878. In this instance the petition was not drawn up in proper form, and the plans did not make sufficiently clear the areas and boundaries of the scheduled lands proposed to be acquired. The defects in the petition and plans were pointed out in a letter addressed to the Council's solicitor on the 25th ultimo. When the documents are submitted in proper form no delay will take place in holding a local inquiry.
