Vol. 10 No. 19

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DAMAGE TO GOREY WORKHOUSE.

asked the Minister for Finance if application has been made on behalf of the County Wexford Board of Health, for an amount of £404 2s. 3d. in respect of damage caused to Gorey Workhouse, by the National Army, while in occupation there, and if he will state when the application will have attention.

A claim for the amount stated has been received in the Office of Public Works. It comprises £230 claimed for rent for period of military occupation, and £174 2s. 3d. for damage to buildings. The claim has been investigated, but, as the buildings are vested in the Minister for Local Government and Public Health, information is awaited from him as to whether the compensation should be paid to him rather than to the Board of Health. Meantime, at the request of the Minister, a payment as a special case was made to the Board of Health on the 7th ultimo of amounts totalling to £35 19s. 3d., claimed for glazing and building of loop-holes, these being works which are immediately necessary for the protection of the premises from weather.

Is the Minister aware that the Board of Health have been asked to sign a receipt for this as final payment in settlement of the claim?

I am not aware of that; it may be so.

Would it be correct if they were asked to do that, in view of the fact that the Minister has stated that he is taking up the matter with the Minister for Local Government?

I must ask for notice of that.
