Vol. 10 No. 20

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DRINAGH CEMENT WORKS.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is in a position to state what are the intentions of the Cement Marketing Company with reference to their works at Drinagh, Wexford.

I understand that the company has no present intention of re-opening their works.

Might I ask the Minister, in view of the fact that there is at the moment a demand for the Drinagh product of this company, would he consider the advisability of communicating with them with a view to finding out why they are not going to open the works? I would also ask the Minister if he is aware that these people at the moment are sending cement into Co. Wexford either from their Mahermore works or their British works?

I am not aware that there is such a demand as would ordinarily lead to the Drinagh Cement Works being kept open. If the Deputy would provide me with the information on which he relies, I could see what might further be done. I am not aware either of the accuracy of the statement which the Deputy has made as to the sending of cement from the Mahermore works into Wexford, but if he will supply me with the details I will again see what can be done.

I said either their Mahermore works or their British works.

Well, either.
